Welcome To Fifty Five Is The New!

Hello out there!
What's it to you, turning the age of Fifty-five? You don't have to be turning it tomorrow, you could have already turned that corner a while back. That part doesn't matter so much.
While it's important what one feels, what matters most of all that one feels, that one feels anything at all.
So, as an exercise in self-examination and a way of getting over an incredible writer's block, I submit this blog to the World Wide Web, and I submit myself to a bit of mirror gazing.
Inspired by the movie "Julie & Julia," I will blog for one year, which will include my turning fifty-five, and see what I find.
Who knows? Maybe fifty-five will be something fantastic...like the New Me.

Year Ahead

I have mixed feelings about the year ahead....considering what's been going on so far, one can only wonder what's up ahead.

We're living in volatile times....all the marionettes are strung up and ready to perform, who's hands really guide these wooden characters as they play out on the world stage?

I fear our government....because I believe those in charge are really in it for their own agenda.
The only thing that's changed in the White House is the skin color.....call me racist, call me anything, but prove me wrong!

For today, Fifty Five Is The New Year Head.....what's goin' on?

Thoughts on Lennon

Life's getting busy again, but I wanted to write a few lines just in case things got away from me...because its important. Because I set a goal and am determined to follow it through....but mostly because my creative heart hungers for expression.

We've done some jamming with friends off an on through the years, and even had the chance to work at the local Lennon Studios-a facility funded by none other than the late Mr. Lennon (John) and his wife Yoko Ono.

Some people blame Yoko for breaking up the Beatles...they're wrong.  I think the whole thing just had a shelf-life.  Those guys couldn't go on doing the same thing anymore, they had to branch out and do what their individual internal creative beings needed to do.

That's how I feel about it, at any rate.
And I actually do like some of Yoko's music, poetry and artwork, by the way.

So for today, Fifty Five Is The New Thoughts on Lennon....John that is.

Colors of Creation

This is a piece of artwork from a few years ago. Some of the others have been so as well. Let's face it, I've been doing artwork a long time so there's bound to be a few "oldies but goodies" for display.

So what would Fifty Five be making me think about or feel today?  Well, besides cleaning up around the house (and the computer, hence some of the older artwork), we've been doing our music more steadily.

It's wonderful when we make music together....guitar and mandolin .....our voices singing in harmony.  Sometimes we forget the lines, or the harmony...and even a few chords now and then, but it still feels and sounds right. Co

So for today, Fifty Five Is The New Colors of Creation...all over the place; the world is our canvas!

Sleep

Couldn't sleep last night, but then again what else is new?

Sleeplessness isn't such a bad thing with so much to do.  There's always writing! But having done that all night I am at last exhausted enough for some sleep...so I'll keep this entry short and get some shut eye.

For today, Fifty Five Is The New Sleep....for an insomniac that's a main event!

Bewitching Politics

Politics! Politics! Politics!  It's all just so nauseating!  Can't people see beyond their desire for power?  Don't they realize the effect their actions have on the lives of the Little Guy? Little Guys like me and a lot of you....just trying to make ends meet.

X Marks The Spot   by rcw
We don't care if somebody dated a member of a coven when they went to college...we don't even care, at least I don't personally, if candidates are a full fledged, cauldron stirring, broom flying witches! Hey! Gimme that old time religion! And quite frankly, considering some of the other character-types we've had in seats of power, a few sorcerers might help fix some of our problems!

If I were running for office and an opponent dragged that kind of skeleton out of my closet, I wouldn't deny it...I'd find a way to run with it.  Like using the theme song from the old t.v. show "Bewitched" for my campaign song.  My commercials would begin with serious issue based commentary, concluding with a wiggle of the nose, a puff of smoke and a few bars from the campaign song.  Why not?

Politics is all just so much smoke and mirrors, rhetoric and mud slinging these days....what ever happened to elections run on issues rather than character assassination? If only a candidate (or their campaign manager) was creative enough to use the mud slung at them to their advantage!  Could be fun and could also be a constructive way to end the bullshit and get the arguments back on track-to what really counts....the issues!

So for today, Fifty Five is the New Bewitching Politics-where's Samathan Stevens when ya need her?

Thoughts on my Friendly Feline Familiar

Wylie T Katz at your service
Animals are such wonderful friends!
Some folks are "dog people," some like birds, or fish...I've even raised mice.

But when all the fur and feathers settle, I am pretty much a "cat person."  Even though they get a bit stand-offish and attitudinal, their independence suits me fine. Besides, I like their honesty.

Here's a picture of our cat, Wylie T Katz.
He's a funny kitty....plays fetch like a dog, loves his belly rubbed and is actually quite a good catcher.

When our cat Ginger died, Diane saw how heart broken we were and insisted on getting us another kitty. At first I was hesitant, we still had Betsy and I didn't want to make her feel intruded upon, but Diane picked us up in her car and we drove to the pet store and found this little guy.

For the life of me, I can't comprehend people being cruel to animals, let alone to one another.  All the horrific methods people have invented to inflict pain upon those creatures perceived as beneath them-couldn't this inventive intelligence have been used for positive purposes?

Wylie was a "rescue" animal.  I can only imagine what horror he may have come from in his young life. He is jumpy, remnants from some visceral event that must have happened during his first weeks before being found.
If I ever get some "extra" money, I want to donate some to animal rescue services.

For today, Fifty Five Is The New Thoughts on my Friendly Feline Familiar....Wylie T. Katz, my fur coated buddy.
