Autumn is one of my favorite times of year....probably more of a back-east sort of thing, with leaves turning and that special chill on the edges of the breeze.
Here in San Francisco we don't get so much of that....in fact right now is our version of what used to be called "Indian Summer," before it got politically incorrect to do so.
So what ever one calls it, here we are! Getting ready for Halloween, dressed like we're getting ready for a day at the beach. Go figure.
Fifty Five Is the New October....San Francisco Style-it's Summer!
When I was heading toward my Double Nickel Birthday in April 2009, the age 55 seems to be a lot of things. In this blog I will chronicle my thoughts about 55 Is The New, for the year beginning December 2009 because...well...that's when I felt like starting the blog. The entries will include that important day, my actual Fifty-Fifth birthday on April 14, 2010 and will continue for my entire fifty fifth year, concluding on April 14, 2011.

Welcome To Fifty Five Is The New!
Hello out there!
What's it to you, turning the age of Fifty-five? You don't have to be turning it tomorrow, you could have already turned that corner a while back. That part doesn't matter so much.
While it's important what one feels, what matters most of all that one feels, that one feels anything at all.
So, as an exercise in self-examination and a way of getting over an incredible writer's block, I submit this blog to the World Wide Web, and I submit myself to a bit of mirror gazing.
Inspired by the movie "Julie & Julia," I will blog for one year, which will include my turning fifty-five, and see what I find.
Who knows? Maybe fifty-five will be something fantastic...like the New Me.

Thoughts On Muses
Creativity can be a struggle sometimes...I mean, it's not like I don't want to be making music, it's just that sometimes one of the other muses is calling and music gets to be a distraction.
It's like some days there's a traffic jam inside my head, one thing wants to come out more than the other....then it's all about coordination. Having a partner means working with their creative juices too. Are they too tired, or too distracted by their own thoughts? Does everybody feel in the mood? Or is only one person ready to jam?
When that happens, it sure is good to have alternatives. This blog, for example, is a very good alternative when Jack's not feeling well, or isn't in the mood to do music. I sometimes go down to the studio by myself and play around, but it's a lot more fun with Jack.
So today is one of those writing days....glad to have more than one muse.
For me, right now Fifty Five Is The New Thoughts on Muses....there's more than one way to be creative.

Post Production
| Our Studio |
Editing the sound, getting it all right...then thinking about the video; what kind do we want? Do we want just a performance piece, or a storyboard? How much stock footage do we have and how much do we need to get?
While recording the audio, we're usually filming too, so we have the performance shots already....just have to get the rest together. And since we've known what song we're working on for a while, we've been able to gather video as we go along. So we have it down to a system. That helps a lot.
For tonight, Fifty Five Is The New Post-Production....working at it behind the scenes.

IN THE STUDIO Jack & Randi and The Rebuild.m4v
Been a while, but we've been working on the studio, so there is a fairly good excuse.
This is a little video we put together, Jack talking about the re-build, our next video plans and such.
For today, Fifty Five Is The New Goal! And boy, do we have plans!

Country Music
country music....what's so different about it?
Aside from the fact that I can actually hear the words, the songs are about every day things....like home, family, living, momma, drinking, jail, trucks, farms....but they've updated it too. Now the sound is more contemporary, it's not all banjos and fiddles.
And the song topics have expanded to today's concerns....along with the usual stuff. That's why I like it so much. Some parts of it remind me of early Rock n Roll, some other parts sound very contemporary to what's going on....even Rap.
So for today Fifty Five Is the New Country Music. Jam on!
