Welcome To Fifty Five Is The New!

Hello out there!
What's it to you, turning the age of Fifty-five? You don't have to be turning it tomorrow, you could have already turned that corner a while back. That part doesn't matter so much.
While it's important what one feels, what matters most of all that one feels, that one feels anything at all.
So, as an exercise in self-examination and a way of getting over an incredible writer's block, I submit this blog to the World Wide Web, and I submit myself to a bit of mirror gazing.
Inspired by the movie "Julie & Julia," I will blog for one year, which will include my turning fifty-five, and see what I find.
Who knows? Maybe fifty-five will be something fantastic...like the New Me.

Reminder

Dusk Through Curtains  by rcw

Sometimes the past isn't so past....like when memories come on so real; it's almost like I could reach my hand out and touch the long-ago moment.

I've been having a lot of dreams like that lately...yes, even though I don't sleep much I do dream, and quite vividly. Been thinking a lot about my mother, living alone now since Dad died back in '04.  She claims she's okay, but has had a lot of health challenges lately.  At 82 plus years of age, she's bound to have a few.

Her birthday is this coming November 11th and it sure would be nice to see her.  Money being what it is, I highly doubt that's possible. But I swear, somehow in the year 2011 I'll get back there and spend some quality time with her.

We didn't always get along while I was growing up...hey! I was a handful! But last time we were together we got a lot of things sorted out. It was during dad's last month, and we had nothing but the hospital and each other to occupy the time. We talked about her days as a real live "Coal Miner's Daughter" in Scranton PA,
about her courtship with Dad.  Dad, by the way, was quite romantic and determined to have my mother as his wife.  And what better way to do so than to win over her mother's heart by playing "Clair de Lune" on the piano!  Now THAT's how it's done!

So for today, Fifty Five is the New Reminder...of loved ones, of days past and of making new memories too.
